The mink is a part of the weasel family and is more elusive in many circumstances. They are found throughout all of the northern US and are strictly carnivorous. Having a semi aquatic habitat they survive on muskrats, rats, mice, crayfish, frogs, and can even raid nests. They are opportunistic eaters taking anything that’s in their bath. Although with its small stature, they are no stranger to kill chickens, ducks, and rabbits. Penetrating the animal in the next and shoulder area. They are surplus killers, killing more than they can eat. Mink breed from January through March, birthing 3 to 6 young in April or May. Diseases The mink are contractors of Aleutian disease, distemper, and rabies.
Removal & Prevention:
Trapping nearby areas of the minks’ habitat is the most effective method in removing the animal. Exclusion methods are offered in certain circumstances.
